Vietnam and Japan have pledged to enhance collaboration between their ruling parties and legislative bodies, following discussions in Hanoi between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The meeting underscored the ongoing expansion of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both parties agreeing to intensify political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, building on the momentum from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc emphasized Vietnam’s robust economic performance and continuous administrative reforms during the talks. He suggested that Japan could contribute by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization to aid Vietnam’s institutional development. Additionally, Ngọc advocated for increased cooperation in several key areas, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology.
The Vietnamese delegation also highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the parliamentary friendship groups of both countries and encouraged greater engagement with young lawmakers. Furthermore, they sought Japan’s support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan, proposing measures to simplify visa procedures and ultimately aiming for visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens in the future.
Hagiuda Koichi expressed his support for expanding bilateral cooperation, stating that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and parliament are committed to fostering exchanges and joint projects in advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. He reiterated Japan’s willingness to work alongside Vietnam in these critical areas to bolster their partnership further.
