Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral have agreed to enhance their countries’ bilateral relations and strategic partnership, focusing on economic development and infrastructure cooperation. The agreement was reached during their meeting in Tokyo, where discussions highlighted the importance of promoting broader ties between Japan and Mongolia.
Prime Minister Takaichi expressed appreciation for Mongolia’s support of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, emphasizing Japan’s interest in further developing cooperative efforts with Mongolia. In response, Prime Minister Uchral reaffirmed Mongolia’s commitment to strengthening relations with Japan, stating that it remains a key priority in Mongolia’s foreign policy.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the signing of an agreement related to Japan’s assistance for the expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport. This project aims to improve Mongolia’s international connectivity and exemplifies the ongoing infrastructure cooperation between the two nations.
In recent years, Japan and Mongolia have been increasing their collaborative efforts. The relationship was notably enhanced in 2022 when the two nations upgraded their ties to a “special strategic partnership for peace and prosperity.”
