Rupert Grint is set to reprise his iconic role as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” marking his return to the beloved character over a decade after the Harry Potter film series concluded. Grint, who portrayed Ron Weasley throughout all eight films alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, will join the stage production for a 17-week engagement starting in February 2027.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Grint remarked, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life.” He highlighted how both he and Ron, as fathers now, bring a unique blend of familiarity and novelty to the role. Grint’s return to the stage follows in the footsteps of Tom Felton, who recently took up his film role as Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway production. Felton is slated to continue performing through January.
The Broadway run of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which premiered in London in 2016, has evolved into a global theatrical sensation, with more than 14 million tickets sold worldwide. Its New York production alone has grossed over $532 million, underscoring its enduring appeal. Grint’s involvement with the production adds further excitement to the show’s storied success.
This isn’t Grint’s first foray onto Broadway; he made his debut in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” Since his tenure in the Harry Potter films, Grint has expanded his acting portfolio with roles in projects like “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” His return to the wizarding world stage aligns with the development of a new Harry Potter television series for HBO, aimed at introducing the magical saga to a fresh generation of fans.
