This latest contribution brings the AI company’s total funding for the group to $40 million. The additional support highlights Anthropic’s rising concerns about the rapid development of AI systems, such as its Claude Mythos model, and the potential dangers if these technologies are misused. The company has made clear that this funding is exclusively for educational and policy initiatives related to AI, explicitly stating it will not support political candidates.
This substantial donation comes amid growing discussions in the United States on how to effectively regulate advanced AI technologies. Anthropic argues that stronger safeguards are necessary to prevent these systems from threatening critical infrastructure, such as hospitals, power grids, and financial networks, should they be mishandled. The announcement of the donation coincides with the release of a preview of the Claude Mythos, an AI model focused on cybersecurity, which is currently accessible to selected users within government, technology, and financial sectors.
In light of these developments, Anthropic is advocating for more rigorous oversight of powerful AI systems, including mandatory independent testing and enhanced government authority to prevent the deployment of models that do not meet safety standards.
