In an exciting development for international travel, Saudia, the flagship airline of Saudi Arabia, has announced the commencement of direct flights between Riyadh and Tokyo, slated to begin in November 2026. This new route will operate three times a week from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, marking a significant step in enhancing connectivity between Saudi Arabia and Japan.
The introduction of this direct service is a collaborative effort with the Air Connectivity Program and the Saudi Tourism Authority, aimed at fostering stronger tourism, trade, and business relationships between the two nations. By improving international access to the Kingdom, the new route aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategic goals, including Saudi Vision 2030, the National Aviation Strategy, and the National Tourism Strategy, which collectively strive to establish the country as a global tourism and logistics center.
In conjunction with the launch of these flights, the Saudi Tourism Authority is actively collaborating with partners in Japan to promote enticing travel packages. This initiative is designed to attract more Japanese tourists to Saudi Arabia, thereby boosting the tourism sector and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
This direct flight connection will also play a crucial role in facilitating travel for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2027, an event that Saudi Arabia is set to host. The timing of the flight launch is particularly strategic as it will enhance the ease of travel for sports fans attending the tournament.
Currently, Saudia operates flights to over 100 destinations worldwide and is in the process of expanding its fleet with the acquisition of 112 new aircraft. This expansion underscores the airline’s commitment to increasing its global reach and capacity, further supporting its role as a key player in the Kingdom’s ambitious plans for the future.
